NOTICE FROM DIRECTOR OF REFEREES, WYSA:
There have been a few issues that have
arisen in the past couple of weeks so I just wanted to relay them to
you so that we are all consistent in their application. If you have any
questions, comments, concerns or additions please email the group with
a "reply to all" prior to Tuesday evening after which the information
can be sent out to your referees.
Medical alert bracelets
These are now available as a Velcro
strap similar to a sport watch strap. These should be considered safe
as is and do not require to be taped or covered over. The "classic
bracelet" still needs to be taped or padded (a wrist sweat band is
appropriate for this) although the medical information part of the
bracelet should still be visible.
Lightning
If there is lightning in your immediate vicinity terminate the game and SEEK IMMEDIATE SAFETY.
Remember the
30/30 lightning safety rule: Go indoors if, after seeing lightning, you
cannot count to 30 before hearing thunder. Stay indoors for 30 minutes
after hearing the last clap of thunder. You can
estimate how many miles away a storm is by counting the number of
seconds between the flash of lightning and the clap of thunder. Divide
the number of seconds by five to get the distance in miles. (http://www.fema.gov/hazard/thunderstorm/index.shtm)
Record on the game sheet the time that the game was abandoned.
Coaches ID cards
Please ensure that ALL COACHES and
other bench personnel (other than the same gender parent) have a valid
ID card. Failure to produce one renders the individual as a spectator.
Only in emergency situations would an individual be allowed at the
team technical area without an iD card.
Referee Liaison
Please ensure that both team coaches list on the game sheet and identify their R.L. for ALL GAMES.
Referee Attire
Referees get paid to do the best job
that they can in a professional manner. All referees must, therefore,
adhere to article 20.1 & 20.2 of the WYSA bylaws pertaining to how
they dress. Ball caps must not be worn. Sunglasses must not be worn
UNLESS there is a medical reason which can be verified by way of a
medical certificate, if required.
