Premier 1 & Premier 2

What is the difference between Premier 1 and Premier 2 soccer?

Bonivital Soccer Club hosts both Premier 1 and Premier 2 competitive teams for players between the age of 13 and 18. Prior to the season kickoff, each district in Winnipeg holds tryouts and will choose the top available 16 to 18 players who will form the Premier 1 team. Depending on the remaining number of interested and qualified players available, the Club will form a Premier 2 team. Once formed, these teams will compete against other Premier 1 and Premier 2 teams within Manitoba.

How do I get placed on a Premier team?

In order to be placed on a Premier 1 or Premier 2 team, potential players must attend a tryout. Tryouts are held in February of each year to choose teams for the upcoming season. A player'sa experience and level of talent and skill are the main evaluation criteria for placement on a team at the Bonivital Soccer Club. Other criteria also come into play, however, including the athlete'' coach-ability, drive, and determination, as well as their commitment to always try their best for their team and for their personal development.

Tryout dates and times are posted on the Bonivital website each fall. Typically, players must pre-register for the tryout. A fee is assessed for each tryout to cover the cost of facility and other administrative components. For more information on upcoming tryouts, please go to the Tryouts information tab beneath the Documents main menu.

I have been placed on a team, can I be removed from the team during the season?

Yes. While every attempt is made to identify capable athletes during the tryout process, a player most certainly can be removed from a Premier 1 or Premier 2 team if their commitment, effort, coach-ability or skill-set fall below what is expected for a Premier player. Players will be advised that their placement on the team is in jeopardy and will be given an opportunity to improve prior to a decision to release them. It is the philosophy of the Bonivital Soccer Club that players are constantly expected to earn their spot on the team, and if a player is not prepared to put in the required time and effort, another player will be offered his/her spot on the roster.

When does the season start and end?

Teams will start pre-season training and preparations the end of March, early April. The season begins the last weekend of April of each year (subject to spring weather conditions).Teams will break the second week of July and resume play in August and continue with playoffs and finals in September.

What is the time commitment with a Premier 1 or Premier 2 team?

Generally speaking, a greater time and financial commitment is expected from Premier players and their families. Premier 1 players can expect to meet about four (4) times per week, while Premier 2 teams can expect to meet three (3) times per week. This does not include preparation and participation in the various local and away tournaments. Tournament participation is at the discretion of the Coaching staff, but the Bonivital Soccer club mandates a minimum of one out-of-town travel tournament for each Premier 1 team.

What are the Club costs to play on a Premier team?

The cost to play on a Premier team ranges from $420 to $600 for outdoor and $535 for indoor. This fee includes a full uniform kit (jerseys, shorts, socks and training t-shirt) for each player. Players entering the Premier program for the first time, including all U13 players, will also receive a track suit and equipment bag. Players will be expected to pay and/or fundraise for team travel expenses associated with tournaments. Special training sessions are sometimes scheduled as well that may be required for each team.
